Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr will ordain Craig Best, Jarred Kohn, Nicholas White, Jacob Willig, and  Andy Smith transitional deacons. Transitional deacons continue their formation toward the holy priesthood after their ordination; and generally are ordained priests the following year. All are welcome to this solemn and joyous occasion.

Nine men will be ordained transitional deacons -- the largest number since 1979. The ordination Mass is open to the public but very crowded, plan to arrive early for parking and seating.

No tickets are needed to attend the annual ordination Mass, an ancient liturgy in which the archbishop exercises the authority given to the apostles to make new priests. The cathedral choir will sing. Parking and seating can be a premium; come early for choice of seats. Reception sponsored by the Serra Club follows in the undercroft.

A procession inside the cathedral will follow the 11 a.m. Mass and will end Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

As part of the Day of Prayer for the Church and for Victims of Abuse called for by Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr, the cathedral will be open all day for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, as well as for three Masses, confession, and prayer. Police Chaplain Father Steve Angi will celebrate the 14th annual Archdiocese of Cincinnati Blue Mass for police, fire, and public safety workers and their families. Held around the country, "Blue Masses" are named for the traditional dress uniforms of these workers. The morning will begin at 10:45 with a blessing of vehicles and equipment outside the cathedral, and will be followed by a reception. People of all faiths welcome.

Also known as a "White Mass" (for the traditional color of doctor and nurse uniforms), the 14th annual Caregivers Mass will recognize outstanding caregivers (both professional and family).
