Charity Navigator rates St. Vincent de Paul as a 4-Star Organization for its strong financial accountability and transparency for the sixth straight year

CINCINNATI, March 2, 2020 – As a result of its strong financial health, accountability and transparency, St. Vincent de Paul – Cincinnati received a 4-Star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent nonprofit evaluator. This is the sixth year in a row St. Vincent de Paul has received the organization’s highest rating, placing it in the top 9 percent of all nonprofits in the country over that period.

“Only 25 percent of all charities rated by Charity Navigator receive the 4-Star distinction,” says Michael Thatcher, President and CEO of Charity Navigator, “and only 9 percent of the charities have received at least six consecutive 4-Star evaluations, indicating that The Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Cincinnati outperforms most other charities in America. Based on its 4-star rating, people can trust that their donations are going to a financially responsible and ethical charity when they decide to support St. Vincent de Paul – Cincinnati.”

Charity Navigator assesses 1.5 million organizations based on a wide variety of metrics, including governance, ethical practices, accountability, transparency and financial health. The 0 to 4-Star rating is based on how funds are spent on programs compared to the expenses incurred for fundraising and administration.

“It is important for our supporters and the community at large to know we use resources wisely to help provide emergency assistance to struggling families,” says Mike Dunn, Executive Director of St. Vincent de Paul – Cincinnati. “Achieving a 4-Star rating six years in a row demonstrates to our supporters our ongoing commitment to financial accountability and transparency.”

Each year, St. Vincent de Paul serves more than 100,000 people across Greater Cincinnati and receives most contributions from private individuals and foundations.
