1850 The first settlers arrive in what became the Village, now City, of Wyoming (named in 1861 for a county in Pennsylvania).

1887 Original church built at Crescent and Cooper Avenues on and purchased from a local businessman.

1892 Church lengthened to accommodate a growing parish. First St. James School established in the priest’s residence at the back of the building.

1893 School closed during the biggest national depression; it reopened in 1929 with Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur as teachers.

1911
First school building constructed.

1929 Land purchased on Springfield Pike, now the main thoroughfare, for a new church.

1939 Ground broken for a new, three-building complex with a school, auditorium and church; designed by famed church architect Edward Schulte.

1940 School and temporary church (designed as the future auditorium) opened; the main architectural feature was a square tower and metal spire.

April 1969 New church dedicated. A modern take on several historic styles, it features a warm stone exterior, red Spanish tile roof, contemporary stained glass windows and a stark interior with plain white walls and a ribbed wooden ceiling.

2015 School closed.

2019 New wood reredos installed and fitted with the restored crucifix from the 1940 church; tabernacle moved to center of the sanctuary.

2023 St. James, Our Lady of the Rosary in Greenhills and Our Lady of the Valley in Reading join as the Queen of Apostles Family of Parishes.

2024 A new Tuesday evening Mass, “with added solemnity and chant” followed by a gathering at the fire pit, became a draw for young people and families.
