Sister Therese Martin Hessler
A Mass of Christian Burial for Franciscan Sister of the Poor Therese Martin Hessler was celebrated Oct. 27 in St. Clare Convent Chapel in Cincinnati. Sister Therese Martin, 90, died on Oct. 21 in Cincinnati.
She was a Franciscan Sister of the Poor for 73 years. During those years, she served the poor as a nurse in hospitals in Cincinnati and Dayton; Batesville, Indiana; Quincy, Ill.; Kansas City, Kan., and Trenton, N.J. In addition to nursing service, she served in numerous leadership positions.
She graduated from the St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing, the University of Dayton with a bachelor of science degree in nursing education; St. John’s University with a master’s degree in administration-nursing service; and the Franciscan School of Theology with master’s degree in applied theology. In later years, she shared a ministry of prayer and presence at St. Clare Convent.
Sister Therese Martin is survived her sister, Elvera Berger. Interment was in the convent cemetery.
