Sister Rita Marie Stein
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of Notre Dame de Namur Rita Marie Stein was celebrated Oct. 24 at St. Julie Chapel at Mount Notre Dame Convent. Sister Rita, 89, died Oct 20 at Mount Notre Dame Health Center. She was a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur for 67 years.
A Cincinnati native, Sister Rita spent 19 years in ministry making and repairing habits. She went on to become certified to teach religion to public school students and train lay catechists. In addition, Sister Rira volunteered at the De Porres Center in downtown Cincinnati, where she conducted classes in sewing and arts and crafts. She later taught at St. Agnes School and Dayton Catholic Elementary School.
Sister Rita returned to Mount Notre Dame Convent in 1979 to manage the kitchen. In 1982, she opened Stein’s Clothing Creations, a sewing service for the sisters.
Sister Rita is survived by her brother, William, and sisters, Marianna Hungler, Joan Brassfield and Betty Seay. Interment was in the convent cemetery.
