Sister Rita Herman
A Mass of Christian Burial for Precious Blood Sister Rita Herman was held Jan. 10 at Salem Heights Chapel in Dayton. Sister Rita, 80, died at Maria Joseph Center in Dayton on Jan. 7. She had been a Sister of the Precious Blood for 63 years.
A native of Lima, Ohio, Sister Rita formally entered the congregation of the Sisters of the Precious Blood in August 1950, at the age of 17. She was previously known in religious life as Sister M. Ralph. She spent 56 years teaching grades four to eight in Celina, North College Hill and Dayton in the Cincinnati archdiocese. She also taught in Cleveland, Missouri, Indiana and Michigan. She retired in 2009 and moved to Salem Heights where she cared for others. She moved to Emma Hall in 2013.
Sister Rita is survived by her sisters, Edna Greeley and Frances Rhine, her brothers, Leo, Donald, Ralph, John and Carl. Interment was in Salem Heights Cemetery.
