Sister Patricia Sammons
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of Notre Dame de Namur Patricia Sammons was celebrated May 5 at the St. Julie Chapel in the Mount Notre Dame Convent. Sister Pat, 79, died April 30 at Mount Notre Dame Health Center. A native of Dayton, she was a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur for 60 years.
Sister Pat taught first grade and third through eight grades in Notre Dame schools in Ohio and Illinois. Later she taught adults skills they needed to earn their GED in the Alliance for Work Based Education program the sisters ran with the University of Dayton. She also served as principal at St. Augustine School in Cincinnati during its final four years.
After 25 years in formal education, Sister Pat turned her love of cooking into service to others by becoming the director of food service at the Mount Notre Dame Health Center.
Sister Pat is survived by her sisters, Dolores Sammons and Sister of Charity Mare Karen Sammons, SC, and her brothers, James, Thomas and Michael. Interment was in the convent cemetery.
