Sister Mildred Shaver
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of Charity of Cincinnati Mildred (Millie) Shaver was celebrated was celebrated Nov. 4 in the motherhouse chapel. Sister Millie, 92, died Oct. 23 at Mother Margaret Hall, the community’s nursing facility. She was a Sister of Charity of Cincinnati for 74.
A native Alabaster, Mich., Sister Millie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the College of Mount St. Joseph, Cincinnati, in 1955. She received a master’s degree in education from the University of Detroit, Detroit, Michigan, in 1962 and a Master of Arts in botany from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, in 1970.
In the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, Sister Millie served as a principal at St. Bernard School in Springfield, along with teaching biology at both Marian and Seton high schools. She went on to serve in pastoral care at hospitals in Michigan. She retired from active ministry in 1994, but continued to volunteer in Michigan, until returning to the motherhouse in 2009.
Sister Millie is survived by her brother, Dick. Interment was in the Sisters of Charity Cemetery.
