Sister Mary Susann Wittwer

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of Charity of Cincinnati Mary Susanne Wittwer was celebrated Dec. 20 in the motherhouse chapel.
Sister Mary Susanne, 87, died Dec. 15 at Mother Margaret Hall. She was a Sister of Charity for 66 years.
A native of Detroit, Sister Mary Susanne entered the community in 1945. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of Mount St. Joseph and a master’s degree in special education from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee. In the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, Sister Mary Susanne taught at St. Rita School for the Deaf and the Springer Institute, where she worked with students with learning disabilities.
In the early 1980s, Sister Mary Susanne transitioned into a new ministry in religious education. Among her assignments was St. Brigid Parish in Xenia. She retired to Royal Oak, Mich., to serve in a parish there before relocating to Mother Margaret Hall.
Interment was in the Sisters of Charity Cemetery.
