Sister Mary Michele Fischer
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of Charity Mary Michele Fischer was held on June 25 in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at the congregation’s Delhi Township motherhouse. Sister Mary Michele. 74, died June 20 at Mother Margaret Hall.
Sister “Mitch,” as she was known throughout the community, was a Detroit native, who entered the congregation in 1955. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in education from the College of Mount St. Joseph; master of arts in English from St. Louis University; and master’s in pastoral studies from Loyola University in New Orleans.
In the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, Sister Mitch taught junior high school at St. Charles Borromeo School in Kettering from 1964-66; Holy Angels School in Kettering from 1967-69; and St. Bernard School in Springfield from 1974-78. She also taught high school English at Catholic Central in Springfield from 1971 until 1974.
Sister Mitch also served in education and administration in other dioceses throughout the United States. In 2003 she was elected to the congregation’s leadership council. She was re-elected in 2007.
She is survived by her sister, Julie Bernier, and brothers, Thomas and Paul. Interment was in the Sisters of Charity Cemetery.
