Sister Mary Michaeleen Keane
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of Mercy Mary Michaeleen Keane was celebrated June 29 at McAuley High School. Sister Mary Michaeleen, 91, died June 23 at McAuley Convent in Cincinnati. She was in her 71st year as a Sister of Mercy.
A native of Cincinnati, Sister Mary Michaeleen entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1939. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the Athenaeum of Ohio in 1948 and completed her master’s degree in library science at Spaulding University in 1968. Sister Mary Michaeleen taught elementary school for 22 years and ministered as a librarian for 43. Until she became ill in May, she continued to serve half days at McAuley High School, where the library was named in her honor. She was a strong supporter of the students there and attended every sporting event and fine arts performance.
Sister Mary Michaeleen is survived by her sister, Margaret Vertz, of Gig Harbor, Wash., and brother, Thomas, of Cincinnati. Interment was in the new St. Joseph Cemetery.
