A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of the Precious Blood Mary Leonides Piekenbrock was celebrated Oct. 22 at Salem Heights. Sister Mary Leonides, 92, died Oct. 19 at the Maria Joseph Center in Dayton. She had been a Sister of the Precious Blood for 71 years.
A native of St. Rose, Ohio, Sister Mary Leonides entered the congregation in 1939. She taught for nine years in elementary schools in Arizona, Missouri, Ohio and Indiana prior to becoming an executive housekeeper. She served in this capacity for nearly 40 year in various locations, including both the Maria Joseph Center and Salem Heights, the central house of the Sisters of the Precious Blood. She retired in 1989. Declining health necessitated her move to Emma Hall at the Maria Joseph Center in 2006.
Sister Mary Leonides is survived by her brother, Werner, of Dayton. Interment was in Salem Heights Cemetery.
