A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of Notre Dame Mary Joann Pitstick was celebrated May 26 at St. Joseph Heights convent chapel. Sister Mary Joann, 91, died May 23 at Lourdes Hall at St. Joseph Heights in Covington.
A native of Jamestown, Sister Mary Joann professed her vows with the Sisters of Notre Dame in 1938. She was an elementary school teacher and principal for many years, serving at St. Columban School in Loveland. During her tenure as principal, St. Columban received the U.S. Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon School Award.
Sister Mary Joann also served as a supervisor and consultant for the Diocese of Covington; as provincial superior of the Notre Dame Sisters from 1971-1983; and coordinated activities and programs for the elderly.
Interment was in St. Joseph Heights Cemetery in Park Hills, Ky.
