Sister Mary Isabelle Waker

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of Notre Dame de Namur Mary Isabelle Waker was celebrated Oct. 6 at the Mount Notre Dame chapel in Cincinnati. Sister Mary Isabelle, 93, died Oct. 1 at Mount Notre Dame Health Center. She was in her 74th year of religious life.
A native of Dayton, Sister Mary Isabelle served at convents there, as well as in Cincinnati and Columbus. She was the cafeteria manager at Notre Dame High School in Chicago and as a cook for the Sisters living in the convent adjacent to the school.
While her ministry in dietary service filled her week days, Sister Mary also volunteered to teach CCD classes on Sundays in Chicago and Ohio. She later worked as a media secretary at the former archdiocesan Office of Religious Education in Dayton.
After her retirement, she served as a nursing assistant at the congregation’s health center and in the ministry of prayer.
Sister Mary Isabelle is survived by her sister, Rita Waker, of Dayton. Interment was on the convent grounds.
