Sister Mary Helen Ankenbrandt
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of Charity of Cincinnati Marie Helen Ankenbrandt was celebrated July 9 in the congregation’s motherhouse chapel. Sister Marie Helen, 85, died June 28, at her home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She was a Sister of Charity for 67 years.
A native of Cleveland, Sister Marie Helen earned a bachelor’s degrees in education from the Athenaeum of Ohio and the College of Mount St. Joseph and a master’s degree in religious studies from Mundelein College in Chicago. Sister Marie Helen spent 28 years as an elementary teacher and religious educator. In the archdiocese, she served at the former St. Anthony in Cincinnati; St. Lawrence in Price Hill; and St. Bernard in Springfield. She later ministered in Florida as a religious educator and consultant. She retired from active ministry after an auto accident in 1992.
Sister Marie Helen is survived by her sister, Barbara Dister, and brothers, Chuck, Bill and Jesuit Father tom Ankenbrandt. Interment was in the Sisters of Charity cemetery.
