A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of St. Joseph Marie Andre Raymond was celebrated at Mount St. Mary Convent in Wichita, Kan., on Jan. 6. Sister Marie Andre, 96, died Jan. 4 at the convent.
Sister Marie Andre entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in New Orleans in 1931 and professed her final vows in 1936. She spent 37 years in Catholic education, 24 of those years in school administration. In the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, Sister Marie Andre taught at St. Jerome and Guardian Angels schools and McNicholas High School. She was also superior at Fontbonne Home for Working Girls.
Sister Marie also ministered in Baton Rouge and New Orleans and other locations in Louisiana and Mississippi. After retiring in 1992 she ministered for four years in St. Angela Merici Parish in Metairie, La., visiting the homebound.
Sister Marie Andre is survived by a brother, Robert Raymond. Interment was in the Sisters of St. Joseph Cemetery in Wichita.
