Sister M. Valeria Abele
A Mass of Christian Burial for Precious Blood Sister Valeria Abele was held May 12 at the Salem Heights Chapel in Dayton. Sister Valeria, 89, died at Maria Joseph Center in Dayton on May 8. She had been a Sister of the Precious Blood for 64 years.
A native of Dayton, Sister Valeria began her community ministry in 1952 as a teacher of grades five and six in Wapakoneta. She later trained to become a registered nurse at the community’s request and served in this ministry for 34 years. She began her nursing ministry in Dayton and in Flint, Mich., where she served as director of nursing service.
Sister Valeria retired to Salem Heights in Dayton in 1997 and engaged in various volunteer activities. Due to her deteriorating health, she moved to Maria Joseph Center in 2013.
Interment was in the Salem Heights Cemetery.
