A Mass of Christian Burial for Precious Blood Sister M. Melitta Barga, 92, was celebrated Nov. 24 at Salem Heights in Dayton. Sister Melitta died Nov. 22 at Maria Joseph Center in Dayton. She was a Sister of the Precious Blood for 76 years.
A native of North Star, Sister Melitta was a teacher for 53 years at St. Mary’s School in Dayton, Queen of Peace in Millville and in public schools in Fort Recovery, Glandorf and Minster. She also worked in Colorado and California.
She retired to Twin Towers in Dayton in 1993, where she volunteered in various ministries, including tutoring adult students studying for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED). She moved to Salem Heights in 2008 but continued her volunteer work. She moved to Maria Joseph Center in 2010.
She is survived by her sisters Rosemary Nisonger of Greenville, Eileen Barrett of Naples, Fla., and a brother, James, of Rossburg.
Interment was in Salem Heights Cemetery.
