A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of St. Francis Laurencia Listerman was celebrated Nov. 25, 2014, in the motherhouse chapel of the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, Ind. Sister Laurencia, 101, died Nov. 20.
A native of St. Bernard, Sister Laurencia entered the community on Sept. 7, 1931, and made her final vows on July 2, 1937. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the Athenaeum of Ohio, a master’s degree in education from Xavier University, and completed postgraduate work at Marquette University, Indiana University, Indiana State University, Wabash College and Mount St. Mary’s Seminary.
Sister Laurencia’s educational ministry spanned 50 years beginning in 1934 and included schools in Indiana, Ohio and Missouri, where she taught at both elementary and secondary levels and often served as the parish organist and choir director. In the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, she taught at St. Peter School in New Richmond and Our Lady of Angels Academy. She retired to the Oldenburg motherhouse in 1984 to minister to the retired sisters.
Interment was in the motherhouse cemetery.
