Sister Janet Brosnan
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Janet Brosnan was celebrated on May 3 at the motherhouse chapel of the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, Ind. Sister Janet, 79, died May 1.
A native of Indianapolis, Sister Janet entered the Oldenburg Franciscan community in 1951 and professed final vows in 1957. Sister Janet was teacher in elementary schools for 26 years, teaching in St. Ann School in Hamilton; St. Leo School in Cincinnati; Our Lady of Mercy in Dayton; St. Pius in Cincinnati; Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Cincinnati; and St. Francis School in Cincinnati. In 1976, she received training in hospital ministry and work with the dying, and served at Providence Hospital Kemper Halfway House, Bethesda Hospital, Sacred Heart Parish, Holmes Hospital, and was the chaplain of University Hospital in Cincinnati.
She is survived by her sisters, Mary Jane Owens, Joanne Hutchinson, Donna Monahan and Marge Rieser, and her brother, Dan. Interment was in the convent cemetery.
