A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of Notre Dame de Namur Elizabeth Waters was celebrated Nov. 30 in the St. Julie Chapel at the Mount Notre Dame Health Center in Cincinnati. Sister Elizabeth, 97, died Nov. 27. She was a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur for 79 years.

Sister Elizabeth was a classroom teacher for 50 years. She taught at the former Sts. Peter and Paul School in Reading and Cardinal Pacelli in Mt. Lookout. She also taught and was acting principal at the former County Day School at Villa Julienne in Dayton. She later taught at the former Julienne High School and served at both the former Holy Trinty and Holy Angels schools, also in Dayton. After leaving the classroom, Sister Elizabeth began what would be the forerunner of her community’s associate program.

Sister Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Mary Toennesen. Interment was in the convent cemetery.
