Sister Clara Blankemeyer
A Mass of Christian Burial For Sister of Mercy Clara Blankemeyer was celebrated Jan. 15 at McAuley Convent in College Hill. Sister Clara, 81, died Jan. 12.
A Cincinnati native, Sister Clara entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1949. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Our Lady of Cincinnati College and a master’s degree in education from Xavier University. Sister Clara ministered in elementary education from 1952-1969, teaching at numerous schools throughout the archdiocese. From 1969-1985, she taught social studies and was the media specialist at McAuley High School. She later served as the manager for subsidized housing for the elderly at Siena Springs in Dayton and St. Theresa Village in Cincinnati.
Sister Clara is survived by her sisters, Anna Hoffman and Rose Salyers. Interment was in St. Joseph (New) Cemetery.
