A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of the Precious Blood Bernadine Veit was celebrated Jan. 27 at Salem Heights, in Dayton. Sister Bernadine, 96, died January 25 at the Maria Joseph Center, in Dayton. She was been a Sister of the Precious Blood for 79 years.

A native of Wapakoneta, Sister Bernadine spent nearly 38 years in education. For 24 years she taught in Catholic schools in Bellefontaine, Botkins, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dayton, Miamisburg and Ottawa in Ohio, and at St. Mary School in Phoenix, Ariz. For 11 years she taught in the public schools of Burkettsville, Fort Recovery, Minster and Ottoville. She served as a principal in Bellefontaine and Wapakoneta.

In 1974 Sister Bernadine began a second career as a clerical aide and dietary assistant at the Maria Joseph Center.  She retired to Salem Heights, the central house of the Sisters of the Precious Blood, in 1979. Declining health necessitated her move to Emma Hall at the Maria Joseph Center in 2006, where she continued an active prayer life.  

Interment was in Salem Heights cemetery.
