Saint Benedict Joseph Labre
St. Benedict Joseph Labre’s
Three Hearts Craft
Supplies:
- Construction paper
- Bronze, brown, black, red, yellow, orange, and pink
- Scissors
- Stapler
- Hole Punch
- Ruler
- String, cut into 3 pieces, each 5” long
Directions:
- Cut strips of construction paper ½” wide using the measurements and quantities below:
- Three colors to make a “Heart of Bronze for yourself”:
- Bronze: 2 – 8”, plus 1 – 3” piece folded in half to make a stem for hanging
- Brown: 2 – 6 ½”
- Black: 2 – 5”
- Three colors to make a “Heart of Flesh for your neighbor”:
- Pink: 2 – 8”, plus 1 – 3” piece folded in half to make a stem for hanging
- Bronze: 2 – 6 ½”
- Red: 2 – 5”
- Three colors to make a “Heart of Fire for God”:
- Red: 2 – 8”, plus 1 – 3” piece folded in half to make a stem for hanging
- Orange: 2 – 6 ½”
- Yellow: 2 – 5”
- Arrange the strips that form each heart in a stack, in this order: short, middle, long, folded stem, long, middle, short. Make sure all the ends that meet the stem’s ends are flush, then staple.
- Beginning with the shortest, curl each strip to form a heart, again lining up all strips flush at the tip of the heart, then staple.
- Hole punch the stems and the bottom of the “Heart of Fire” and the “Heart of Flesh.”
- Attach string to the top of the “Heart of Fire,” then connect the “Heart of Fire” and “Heart of Flesh.” Finally use string to connect the “Heart of Flesh” and “Heart of Bronze.”
- Hang your three hearts decoration and talk about the three hearts in one that St. Benedict Joseph Labre thinks we should have.
