Rev. David Beckmann to speak in Archdiocese this week

Pope Francis’ visit to the United States is over but the Food for All: Be Multiplied campaign to welcome him has two more events taking place this week.
On Wednesday, Oct. 21, Reverend David Beckmann, the president of Bread for the World, will speak at Queen of the Apostles Church on the Bergamo campus in Dayton. The following day, he will speak at Xavier University in the Conaton Board Room in Schmidt Hall.
Beckmann, a World Food Prize laureate and one of the nations foremost advocates for the hungry and poor, will share his strategies for combating hunger and poverty at the events. Beckmann leads the Bread for the World institute, which was a partner with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati in some facets of the Food for All campaign. The organization provides policy analysis on hunger. Beckmann previously worked for the World Bank.
The Dayton event, tomorrow night, begins with a light dinner and “hunger experience” at 5:30 p.m. There will be music at 6:30 p.m. and Beckmann will speak at 7 p.m. The event has a suggested donation of $10, which will benefit the Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley Choice Food Pantry and Bread for the World. The Cincinnati event on Thursday begins with light refreshments at 6:30 p.m. and Beckmann will speak at 7 p.m. Reservations are not required for the Cincinnati speech and donations will be accepted to benefit the St. Leo Food Pantry. For more information, call (513) 421-3131, extension 2626.
