Out and About for August 2023
1) Sewing for Good at St. Ignatius
The Scarf It Up Club’s 75 members at St. Ignatius Parish, Cincinnati, collectively crochet, knit, sew and quilt. Their mission is to create warm, attractive items to comfort those in need or going through tough times. Serving 16 community agencies, in 2022 they distributed over 9,000 hand-made items to the parish and community. The group’s newest initiative is to make sundresses out of pillowcases for their sister parish in Kenya.
2) 100 Years for Dayton Women’s Club On April 22, the Dayton Catholic Women’s Club celebrated their centennial jubilee with Mass at Emmanuel Church. Donna Heckler, author of Marketing God: Inspired Strategies for Building the Kingdom, spoke at the reception that followed.
3) SUA’s Hands Across Campus
Saint Ursula Academy’s Hands Across Campus student organization wrapped up the school year by celebrating student leaders working to create a more inclusive campus at Saint Ursula Academy. Several students honored for being leaders in our SUA community modeled embracing others, as well as both sharing and celebrating the differences in our community.
4) 40 Years of SVdP Service
On April 5, St. Vincent de Paul’s St. William Conference honored Carol Herbert as she stepped down from her role as Vincentian, after 40 years of service. Among her achievements, Herbert helped move the SVdP food pantry at St. William, from a closet into the modular extension of St. William School. The pantry now serves an average of 30 families in West Price Hill each month.
