Gerard Anthony “Gerry” Faust, 89, of Akron, was a legendary high school and college football coach who passed away on November 11, 2024 after an age-related illness.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, in 1935 to Gerard and Alma Faust, Coach Faust graduated from Chaminade High School. He began his college education at Ohio University but later transferred to the University of Dayton, where he played quarterback for the Flyers and graduated in 1958. After graduating, he coached football at both the high school and collegiate levels.

Beyond his impressive coaching career, Gerry was known for his unwavering faith, deep sense of compassion, and remarkable generosity. His spirituality was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and shaping his values. Coach Faust was not only a mentor on the football field but also a guiding light to all who knew him, embodying selflessness and kindness. He touched countless lives through his faith, offering comfort, support, and a listening ear to anyone in need. His influence extended far beyond his players; he was a beloved role model who inspired young minds and instilled the importance of character, hard work, and integrity.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marlene Faust; his brother, Fred Faust, and his wife, Laurie; his children, Julie Buzzi (Steve), Gerry Faust III (Dee Dee), and Stephen Faust (Irina); and his cherished grandchildren: Megan Buzzi, Natalie Buzzi, Spencer Taylor, Chloe Faust, Alex Faust, Emilie Faust, and Igor Faust. Gerry is preceded in death by his parents, Gerard and Alma Faust, his sister, Marilee Faust Oberheu, brother in law Kenneth Oberheu and nephew Kenny Oberheu Jr.

Gerry’s legacy lives on through the countless individuals he coached, mentored, and inspired. He was a beacon of light in the community, and his memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 13, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Hilary Church, 2750 West Market St, Fairlawn, OH 44333. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 14, at 10 a.m., also at St. Hilary Church. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In place of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Gerard A. Faust Memorial Fund at Archbishop Moeller High School. Donations will honor Coach Faust’s legacy by supporting young students who embody his faith, leadership, and dedication values. This will ensure that his spirit and passion for shaping future generations will continue for years.
