Mothers of Priests

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, and especially the mothers of priests gathered here today, as we celebrate the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, we are reminded of the profound impact these apostles had on the early Church. Like them, mothers of priests play a crucial role in nurturing and supporting vocations.

In Acts 12, we see Peter miraculously freed from prison by an angel. This reminds us of the power of prayer and faith, qualities that mothers often instill in their children. Just as the early Church prayed fervently for Peter, mothers of priests continually lift their sons in prayer, supporting them through challenges and celebrating their triumphs.

Paul’s words in 2 Timothy reflect on his life of service: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”

Mothers of priests, you too are running this race alongside your sons, offering unwavering support and encouragement.

In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus declares Peter the rock upon which He will build His Church. Similarly, mothers are the foundation upon which priestly vocations are built. Your love, guidance, and example have shaped your sons into the servants of God they are today.

To the mothers gathered here, your togetherness is a source of strength. Like Peter and Paul, who worked together despite their differences, you form a community of support for each other and for all priests.

Let us pray for the continued strength and grace of these remarkable women, and for all priests who serve our Church. May Saints Peter and Paul intercede for us, guiding us in our journey of faith and service.
