ST. ANDREW DEANERY — As Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati begins its 50th anniversary, the school has named two honorary chairmen for the celebrations: former head football coach Gerry Faust and guidance department chair, Marianist Brother Robert Flaherty.

Faust was one of eight faculty members when Moeller first opened its doors to 196 freshmen in the fall of 1960. He will always be synonymous with Moeller football. He coached for 18 years (1963-80), with seven unbeaten seasons, four mythical national titles and five state titles before he became head football coach at the University of Notre Dame.
“Gerry Faust is a Moeller icon,” says Moeller principal Blane Collison, “and his leadership has continued throughout the years.”
Brother Robert Flaherty will celebrate his golden jubilee with the Marianist order this year and his 47th year as a leader at Moeller. He has held numerous advisory, supervisory and spiritual positions.
“Few would realize how many ‘hats’ Brother Flaherty has worn over the years,” said Collison, “and he has always worn them with great honor and integrity.”
Moeller will soon be launching a new website celebrating the school and its 50th anniversary: www.CelebrateMoeller.org. One of the upcoming anniversary activities is a monthly alumni speaker series that will include House Leader John Boehner, Friday, Feb. 26; Lt. Col. Dave Thole, Friday, March 26; and Adam Molina, Friday, April 23. The luncheon events will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., at Montgomery Inn, and the series is open to all Moeller alumni, parents, and friends. Tickets are $25.
In preparation for next year’s activities, Moeller is collecting school memorabilia for the 50th anniversary celebration. If you have Moeller memorabilia to donate or share for the celebration, please contact Johanna Kremer, communications director, at 513-791-1680, ext. 1330, or e-mail [email protected].
