Tri-State Residents Walk in Remembrance of Hiroshima and Nagasaki8:00 pm -

A peace memorial ceremony will be held on Thursday August 8^that International Friendship Park (1135 Eastern Ave Cincinnati, OH 45202) at 8pm for a candle light vigil and meditative walk in memory of the victims at Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and all the victims of war. Following an initial gathering at, participants will be invited to walk along the river for a silent reflection.

"The memory of those who were lost to those atomic bombs speak to us here today" said Nathan Ruggles, Peace Program Coordinator. "It serves as a warning and a reminder of the terrible devastation that can result from war and the unleashing of such weapons, which threaten all of us with their destructive power as long as they exist."

Tuesday, August 6^th, will mark the 68^th anniversary of the bombings at Hiroshima followed three days later with the bombings at Nagasaki. These anniversaries not only mark the dates of terrible tragedies but also the first nuclear attack and the beginning of the age of nuclear warfare. Every year on August 6th, our brothers and sisters in Hiroshima gather in front of the Hiroshima Peace City Monument in Peace Memorial Park to comfort the spirits of the people who died in the bombings and to pray for world peace.

“We attempt to model their efforts every year by joining them in solidarity to reflect upon the loss of life that occurred” states Sr. Alice Gerdeman. “And also to renew the call to action of creating peaceful and just communities, free of war and iniquity.”
