SIDNEY, OH | February 17, 2020 – The Lehman Catholic Science Olympiad team has competed, along with teams from New York to California, in two virtual invitationals this year. This year’s team consists of 15 students competing in 23 events.

Lehman Catholic’s team placed 25th out of 87 teams at The Ohio State Invitational. Lehman students placing in the top 25 at the OSU Invitational:

• Gus Schmiesing and Tim Schmiesing – 21st in Bridge Building
• Josh George and Jude Schmiesing, 15th in Detector Building
• Thomas Schmiesing and Tim Schmiesing, 7th in Gravity Vehicle
• David Brunner and Jude Schmiesing, 15th in Ping Pong Parachute
• Gus Schmiesing and Tim Schmiesing, 20th in Trajectory
• Brenden Werling and Logan Linson, 11th in WiFi
• Logan Linson, 21st in Wright Stuff

Lehman Catholic’s team placed 24th out of 69 teams at the Centerville Invitational. Lehman students placing in the top 25 at the Centerville Invitational:

• Josh George and Jude Schmiesing, 5th in Detector and won a medal!
• Brandon Jones and Emilee VanSkiver, 16th in Anatomy
• Gus and Tim Schmiesing, 19th in Bridge
• Brandon Jones and Isabel Flores, 9th in Cell Biology, and received a ribbon
• David Brunner and Thomas Schmiesing, 23rd in Environmental Chemistry
• Thomas Schmiesing and Tim Schmiesing, 12th in Gravity Vehicle
• Mary Lins and Thomas Schmiesing, 20th in Ornithology
• Gus Schmiesing and Tim Schmiesing, 16th in Trajectory
• Mary Lins and Brenden Werling, 20th in WiFi
• Logan Linson, 13th in Wright Stuff

Other members of the Lehman Catholic Science Olympiad team are Ryan Armstrong, Mark Moloney, Mara O’Leary, Maggie Schmiesing, Valerie Rindler, and Sarah Burkhardt.

Lehman Catholic Science Olympiad program is coordinated by Sister Ginny Scherer. Olympiad coaches who graciously volunteer their time are Tracy Hall, Tom Frantz, Jim Hemm, Tom Largent, Michael Largent, Scott Streng, Kim Wenning, and Steve Wenning.

The next Science Olympiad competition is Regionals on March 19, 2022.
