Ten Mount Notre Dame students and two chaperones participated in new experience this summer — the rooted + Grounded Cincinnati Service Sampler trip. Participants stayed at Mt. St. Joseph University and worked at various service sites throughout the five-day service retreat. Activities and reflection experiences were tied to their foundress, St. Julie Billiart, through her quotes, writings and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur who carry on her work today.
Charlie Williams and John Sonnefeld were among the students who participated in mission trips to places like Wheeling, W.Va.. While working at sites such as gardens and soup kitchens, students learned how the coal industry affects the lives of those living in the one of the poorest U.S. states.
During a June mission trip, students from St. Ursula Academy did rehab and renovation work, building bunk beds and outhouses for families on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
