Father Stephen A. Meder

Jesuit Father Stephen A. Meder, who served as a teacher and librarian at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati from 1944-55, died Dec. 21 in Pontiac, Mich. He was 98.
A native of Cleveland, Father Meder earned a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University in Chicago and a master’s degree in library science from the Catholic University of America.
He entered the Society of Jesus in 1930 and was ordained a priest in 1943. In his 79 years as a Jesuit, he also taught in Chicago and Cleveland and served as a librarian in Michigan.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 23 at Combiere Center in Michigan. Interment followed in the cemetery there.
