Father Norbert Brockman
A Mass of Christian Burial for Marianist Father Norbert Brockman was celebrated April 4 in Guadalupe Chapel at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. Father Brockman, 79, died March 29.
A Cincinnati native, Father Brockman entered the Society of Mary in 1951 and professed first vows in September 1952. He pursued undergraduate studies at the University of Dayton, earning a bachelor’s degree in political science. After professing final vows in 1956, he went on to further his studies in political science, earning both a master’s degree and doctorate at Catholic University of America. Father Brockman finished a master’s degree in sacred theology at United Theological Seminary in Dayton and was ordained in 1973.
Father Brockman taught at Marianist high schools in Ohio, New York and Kentucky before moving on to the university level as a professor at the University of Dayton. He also served as dean of students at Apostles of Jesus Seminary in Nairobi, Kenya. In recent years, he served as a professor of political science and international relations at St. Mary’s University.
Father Brockman is survived by his sisters, Nancy Brockman, Elizabeth Huber, and Ursuline Sister Patricia Brockman, and a brother, Steven. Interment was in the Marianist cemetery on campus.
A memorial Mass for Father Brockman will be celebrated at St. Francis de Sales Parish in Cincinnati on May 1 at 4:30 p.m.
