Father Eldon Reichert

Marianist Father Eldon Reichert, a member of his community for almost 70 years, died March 20 in Dayton. He was 87.
A Dayton native, Father Reichert grew up in Holy Angels Parish. He entered the Society of Mary at age 16. Father Reichert professed first vows in 1941 and perpetual vows in 1945 at the University of Dayton. After several years of teaching he was ordained in 1952.
Father Reichert’s educational ministry included teaching assignments in Pittsburgh, Brooklyn and Cleveland. He also worked in admissions and as a guidance counselor. In addition, Father Reichert spent 12 years in Eastern Africa ministering as a chaplain and teacher.
Father Reichert donated his body to science. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on April 7 at St. Aloysius Parish in Cleveland. Another Memorial Mass will be celebrated on April 17, 11 a.m., at Queen of Apostles Chapel at Mount St. John. There will be a private burial at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Dayton when Father Reichert’s remains are returned by Wright State University Medical School.
