A Mass of Christian Burial for Deacon John (Jack) E. Gould was celebrated Dec. 21 at St. Peter Church in Huber Heights. Deacon Gould, 76, died Dec. 16 after collapsing following Mass at St. Peter Dec. 11. He was ordained to the permanent diaconate in 1998 by retired Cincinnati Archbishop Daniel E.Pilarczyk and had served at St. Peter since ordination.
At St. Peter, Deacon Gould’s ministries included organizing children’s Masses, funerals, assisting and preaching at Mass, baptism preparation and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. A resident of Springfield, Deacon Gould also ministered at St. Teresa of the Child Jesus in Springfield. He was also involved in ecumenical issues.
A native of Loveland, Deacon Gould was a retired attorney, practicing in Springfield for nearly 50 years. He earned a law degree from the University of Cincinnati and was a member of the Ohio state and Clark County bar associations. He was an avid outdoorsman.
Deacon Gould was active in many organizations including the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Nehemiah Foundation, the Knights of Columbus, the Clark County Mental Health Association, St. John’s Nursing Home Ministry and the Clark County Jail Chaplaincy Board.
He is survived by Joan, his wife of 47 years; daughters Michelle Kelly, Janine Cochran and Jody Moore; and sons John and Michael. Interment was in Ferncliff Cemetery in Springfield.
