Recent graduate Kamaria Gragston ’22 received the Spirit of Sr. Dorothy Stang Award at DePaul Cristo Rey High School’s All-School Awards ceremony on May 20. She lives in Colerain Township and is a graduate of the Hamilton County Mathematics & Science Academy.

This award is granted by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Mission Office. It was created to honor the ministry and memory of Sister Dorothy Stang and recognize those Catholic high school seniors who exemplify her values in their everyday lives.

Kamaria was nominated for her outstanding service work at DPCR and in the community. She has volunteered at St. Francis Seraph Ministries Dining Room, spent a week as a Habitat for Humanity volunteer in New Orleans, and helped plan, organize and implement a DPCR spring break urban mission trip to Washington, D.C., this past March.

Her commitment to service was among the reasons she received a full-tuition Urban Scholars Award from Marquette University. The scholarship is renewable for four years. She plans to study physical therapy when she enrolls at Marquette for the coming fall semester.

DePaul Cristo Rey is a Catholic, college-preparatory high school with a mission to educate young people who have the potential but limited financial means to go to college. This is accomplished through a dynamic academic program partnered with an innovative Corporate Work Study Program, not available at any other local high school. Sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, DPCR is one of 38 high schools in the nationwide Cristo Rey Network® which serves 12,300 young people.
