DAYTON DEANERY — Educators from Catholic schools in the Miami Valley were honored at the 22nd annual Teacher Recognition Banquet at the Presidential Banquet Center in Kettering May 3. Sister of Charity Carol Bauer served as mistress of ceremonies and Bishop-elect Joseph R. Binzer delivered the invocation.

The event was highlighted by awards to 135 teachers who have achieved milestone years in their commitment and service to the Miami Valley’s Catholic schools. Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr delivered the keynote address and, with the assistance of Jim Rigg, archdiocesan superintendent of Catholic Schools, presented 10 teachers with special awards for 40 or more years of service.

Those honored were: John Saurine, 52 years, Carroll High School, Dayton; Joe Sens, 45 years, Carroll High School; Fran Moore, 44 years, St. Charles Borromeo School, Kettering; Fran Bruns and Linnea Flach, 40 years, St. Luke School, Beavercreek; Karen Fout, 40 years, Bishop Fenwick High School, Middletown; Sister of Charity Mary Alice Haithcoat, 40 years, Piqua Catholic School, Piqua; Patrice Harty, 40 years, Bishop Fenwick High School; Barbara Maloney, 40 years, Mother Brunner School, Dayton; and Dennis Papesh, 40 years, Holy Angels School, Dayton.

Twenty-one teachers were also honored as recipients of Innovative Teaching Grants and had their projects displayed in the lobby of the banquet hall. Cincinnati area Catholic School teachers were recognized at a similar event March 31.
