Tony Aretz, Ph.D., president of the College of Mount St. Joseph, formally signed the St. Francis Pledge, a commitment by Catholic individuals, parishes and institutions to assess their community’s energy conservation and impact on global climate change.

This is an international effort for Catholic parishioners and organizations to be good energy stewards and advocate for those who face the harshest impacts of global climate change.

 

The president’s signing of the St. Francis Pledge commits the Mount to a framework of action for moving ahead with sustainability, said Bill Lonneman, assistant professor of nursing and the faculty adviser to the Green Campus Group, the College’s student environmental club.

 

“The St. Francis Pledge was designed for institutions to assess how we might contribute to climate change and act to reduce our environmental impact,” Lonneman said.

 

“The Mount community has long been proactive in caring for our environment,” said Aretz.  “We offer an academic minor in Sustainability Studies as well as moving forward on other environmentally-friendly projects such as the Library’s green roof, the Hillside Community Garden (in partnership with Delhi residents), the campus-wide Environmental Action Committee, and hosting recycling events.”

 

The College of Mount St. Joseph is an undergraduate and graduate Catholic college that provides an interdisciplinary liberal arts and professional curriculum emphasizing values, service and social responsibility.
