AMID PANDEMIC, ST. VINCENT DE PAUL & MORRIS FURNITURE BRING A “DAY TO DREAM” TO LOCAL FAMILIES’ DOORSTEPS
Fifth annual “Day to Dream” matched new beds to children who need them
CINCINNATI, August 31, 2021 – Fifty children in Greater Cincinnati now have a safe, comfortable place to fall asleep at night, after receiving a new bed during the fifth annual “Day to Dream” event – a partnership between St. Vincent de Paul and Morris Furniture Company. The children were selected to receive a new bed based on need, through applications submitted to St. Vincent de Paul.
“Not having a proper bed to sleep in is unfortunately a problem faced by many children in Cincinnati every night. Some kids lay on air mattresses or cushions on the floor. Others are tucked in with siblings or are sleeping on couches,” says Kristen Gallagher, Marketing and Communications Manager for St. Vincent de Paul – Cincinnati. “We are extremely grateful to Morris Furniture for helping us to provide these 50 kids with a brand new bed of their own.”
On Saturday, August 28, volunteers from the Mighty Men group of Crossroads Community Church delivered the new bed sets, donated by Morris Furniture Company, directly to families’ homes. Children were also provided new sheets, blankets and a pillow provided by Standard Textile, a backpack from Park National Bank, Cincinnati Reds gear from the Reds, and a gift card for a meal from Chick-fil-A.
This is the second year in a row that the “Day to Dream” event was modified from its original format. In previous years, “Day to Dream” took place at the Reds Urban Youth Academy and included a special program for children and their families.
Robert Klaben, Morris Furniture Co., Inc. Vice President of Communications shared, “Due to the pandemic, we were unable to have an in-person event, but thanks to the great Mighty Men of Crossroads Community Church and other volunteers, we were able to bring Day to Dream directly to 50 very special kids. We appreciate all our volunteers and community partners so we can help turn dreams into reality for children who do not have a bed of their own.”
“Day to Dream” continues with an effort to increase awareness about the need for beds in our community and generate support for St. Vincent de Paul to provide even more beds to families throughout the year. A donation of $150 provides a complete bed set for a neighbor in need. Donations for beds are also accepted any time at DaytoDream.org.
