Salesian Guild to honor Garbsch; host Father Reese
The Salesian Guild of Catholic Communicators of Greater Cincinnati will host its 77th annual gathering via Zoom on Sunday, Jan. 24, honoring DePaul Cristo Rey Director of Communications and Marketing Margee Garbsch as Communicator of the Year.
Garbsch’s career began at WKRC-TV in Cincinnati while still enrolled as a student at Xavier University. Soon after graduation she began a full-time position, working at the station for seven years. Garbsch spent seven years in the public information office of Mount St. Joseph University and several years as a self-employed writer, editor and consultant.
She first worked with DePaul Cristo Rey as a consultant in 2010, before the school’s opening. Garbsch joined the staff as a part-time public relations director, later becoming full-time. She is now a member of the school’s Executive Leadership Team.
“I am especially proud of this award because one of the criteria is that recipients demonstrate ‘faith in action in the workplace,’” Garbsch said. “While I have been a professional communicator for more than 30 years, it has been my work at DePaul Cristo Rey High School that has most fed my faith and opened my eyes to better understand and commit to Catholic social teaching.”
The digital event will also feature Jesuit Father Thomas Reese as keynote speaker. As a columnist for Religion News Service, he brings his expertise as a political scientist and skills as a writer to contemporary issues. Father Reese will share his insights with the Salesian Guild members on the role that Catholic communicators can play in healing divisions.
The virtual gathering will begin with a prayer service led by Glenmary Home Missioners President Father Dan Dorsey.
