Cincinnati-based St. Anthony Messenger, a national Catholic general interest magazine, won nine awards June 3 from the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada. The awards were announced at the conclusion of the 2016 Catholic Media Conference in St. Louis, Missouri.

Among the awards, the magazine finished third in general excellence among national general interest magazines. St. Anthony Messenger won four first place awards, including for best coverage of the papal visit and and best coverage of the 2015 Synod on the Family.

Cincinnati-based Franciscan Media, which is affiliated with St. Anthony Messenger, won 14 book awards in the CPA’s book contest.

St. Anthony Messenger is published by the Franciscan Friars of St. John the Baptist Province, in Cincinnati.

St. Anthony Messenger wasn’t the only local publication honored.

Comboni Missions, a magazine published by the Comboni Missionaries, won a third place honor for best editorial.

The Glenmary Challenge, published by the Glenmary Missioners, earned an honorable mention for Best essay originating with a magazine or newsletter, Mission magazine (overseas and home).

Third place: Best short story in a magazine for “The Annual Sourwood Squirrel Scramble” by David Hull

Honorable Mention: Best editorial in a magazine for “Stars, Bars, and Scars” By John Feister

Third Place: Best editorial in a magazine for “Is Dialogue Possible? YES!” By Father Joseph Bragotti.

Glenmary Challenge
Honorable Mention: Best essay originating with a magazine or newsletter, Mission magazine (overseas and home) for “The Racial Divide” by Father John S. Rausch.
