ST. ANDREW DEANERY — Sts. Peter and Paul Academy in Reading received an early Christmas present recently via a letter from Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk announcing the academy’s recognition as a private, independent Catholic elementary school in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

The school, located on Clark Road, opened its doors for the first day of school on Aug. 22, 2007, following the closure of the former Sts. Peter and Paul School after 154 years. Even before the school closed research had begun into the feasibility of establishing a private, independent school. The model used was Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School in Liberty Township. On Oct. 2 the academy was able to purchase its building after two years of renting.

“Being welcomed into the archdiocese as a recognized Catholic school brings great joy to the founders of the academy,” reads an update on the school’s website. “Sts. Peter and Paul Academy has made great strides in a short period of time to become a solid, stable educational choice.”
