A Mass of Christian Burial for Franciscan Sister of the Poor Marilyn Fischer was celebrated May 15 at St. Clare Convent Chapel in Cincinnati. Sister Marilyn, 74, died May 9 in her home in Manhattan, NY.
A native of Quincy, Ill., Sister Marilyn entered the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor in 1958. She earned a degree in nursing from the University of Dayton and a degree in education from Xavier University. She served as a nurse at the former St. Mary Hospital in Cincinnati and was an instructor at St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Dayton.
Sister Marilyn also served her religious congregation in several leadership positions including director of formation, counselor and minister general. She served as president of the board of the Franciscans Sisters of the Poor Health Care System. More recently, Sister Marilyn worked closely with the congregation’s associates, developing programs and mentoring the group.
She is survived by her sisters, Cynthia Fischer and Judy Caspermeyer, and brothers, Dennis, Ronald and Stephen. Interment was in Quincy.
