A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister of Charity of Cincinnati Mary Jo Jay was celebrated Oct. 12 in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at the congregation’s Delhi Township motherhouse. Sister Mary Jo, 73, died Oct. 6 at Mother Margaret Hall.
A native of South Dakota, Sister Mary Jo was a Sister of Charity for 55 years. She earned a bachelor of science degree in education from the College of Mount St. Joseph in 1967, and a master of arts in theology from Xavier University in 1983. In the archdiocese Sister Mary Jo taught at Resurrection School, the former Cure of Ars, the former St. Saviour School and Holy Family School in Cincinnati.
Sister Mary Jo also ministered in support services at the congregation’s motherhouse and taught adults studying for their GED at the Terrace Guild. She retired to the motherhouse in 2000 to serve as a volunteer at Mother Margaret Hall.
Sister Mary Jo is survived by her sister, Patricia Raine, and brothers, Robert and Jerry. Interment was in the Sisters of Charity cemetery.
