Sister of Charity of Cincinnati Redempta Wittberg died Feb. 2, at the age of 98 in Mother Margaret Hall at the Sisters of Charity motherhouse. The Cincinnati native has been a Sister of Charity for 68 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 8 in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at the motherhouse. Interment was in the Sisters’ cemetery.

Sister Redempta earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the College of Mount St. Joseph and a master’s in education from Xavier University.
 
She entered religious life in 1941 and served as a nurse in Michigan before becoming a supervisor and instructor of pediatrics at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.
 
In 1955, Sister Redempta joined St. Joseph Infant Home in Cincinnati, as a registered nurse as well as the director and supervisor of nurses. Nine years later she returned to Good Samaritan Hospital to supervise and instruct nurses in pediatrics, and later served in Colorado and Michigan again. She was also director of nursing services in Mother Margaret Hall and developed a childcare center at the College of Mount St. Joseph for children of mothers seeking a college degree.
 
In retirement she volunteered her services at Bayley Place, active until the week of her death.

She is survived by a brother, Arthur Wittberg.
