Sister Mary Inez Schuman

A Mass of Christian Burial for Franciscan Sister Mary Inez Schuman was celebrated on Dec. 3 at the motherhouse chapel of the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, Ind. Sister Inez, 88, died Nov. 30 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville.
A native of St. Leon, she entered the Oldenburg Franciscan community in 1937 and professed her final vows in 1943. As an elementary school teacher and principal, Sister Inez’s ministry spanned 47 years. Among the schools where she served were St. Ann in Hamilton and St. Bernard, St. Pius, St. Clare and St. Clement, all in the Cincinnati area.
Sister Inez also taught and ministered as a teacher and principal at schools in Indiana.
Upon her retirement from teaching, she served as a clerk in the finance department at the Oldenburg motherhouse and also as telephone operator from 1988 to 2006. Sister Inez entered full retirement in 2006 and was a resident of St. Clare Hall, the Sisters’ health care facility.
Sister Inez is survived by a sister, Lucille Roell, of Harrison, and two brothers, Albert and Leroy Schuman, both of St. Leon. Interment was in the motherhouse cemetery.
