A full house of more than 1,000 parish and school leaders – clergy and lay – from around the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, including Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr and Auxiliary Bishop Joseph R. Binzer, will gather at the Dayton Convention Center on Oct. 6 and 7 for an Archdiocesan gathering titled “Proclaim: Equipping Disciples for a New Missionary Age.”
The event will involve prayer, celebration, study and discussion as local Catholics examine the complexities of the new missionary age and equip themselves to proclaim Christ in every human situation.
Proclaim follows and builds on a successful summit of clergy and laity held in Dayton two years ago.
Keynote speeches will be live-streamed at the Archdiocese’s website. They can also be accessed directly at: http://faith.streamspot.com/venue/?churchname=5a36f117 or by following the archdiocese on Facebook.
The two-day event “will be an opportunity to consider church members’ roles as missionary disciples as well as to gain skills and resources for proclaiming Christ in this time and culture,” noted Archbishop Schnurr.
Keynote speakers will be:
- Most Reverend Frank J. Caggiano, S.T.D., D.D. , Bishop of Bridgeport, Connecticut.
- Ann Garrido, D.Min., associate professor of homiletics at Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis.
- Tom Corcoran, M.A., co-author of Rebuilt: Awakening the Faithful, Reaching the Lost, Making Church Matter.
- Alejandro Aguilera-Titus, D. Min. (cand.), of the Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Participants will be able to take part in a “ministerial forum,” a session for members of specific ministry groups to discuss issues with each other from their specific perspective. They also can participate in three workshops of their choice.
“Proclaim is an important opportunity to strengthen networks of ministerial support in the Archdiocese,” said Chris Kreger, coordinator of the Executive Committee for the event. For more details, go to www.catholiccincinnati.org\Proclaim2014.
