Upcoming lecture offers analysis of Second Vatican Council
Press Release
The inaugural lecture in the University of Cincinnati’s Catholic Studies speaker series will be held Thursday, April 11, 7:30-9 p.m. at St. Monica-St. George Church, 328 W. McMillan St. in Clifton.
The presenter is Richard Gaillardetz, Joseph Professor of Catholic Systemic Theology at Boston College and president-elect of the Catholic Theological Society of America. An international expert in the history, theology, and reception of the Second Vatican Council and a leading authority on issues in the contemporary church, Gaillardetz will offer an analysis of the Council titled, “Vatican II as an Unfinished Building Site.”
This will be the first “St. Monica-St. George Lecture,” which recognizes the generosity and support of the members of the parish in establishing the Conway Chair in Catholic Studies. In the fall of this academic year, UC began a new program in Catholic Studies. Meetings have taken place, strategies put forward and foundations laid. The first course in the curriculum, “The Catholic Intellectual Tradition,” is being taught this spring to an exceptionally bright group of students, who are coming into contact with Augustine, Bonaventure, Aquinas, Simone Weil, Flannery O’Connor, and many other important thinkers.
