DPCR student throws first pitch at Reds game

DePaul Cristo Rey High School in Cincinnati has been experiencing a year of firsts. The school’s first graduating class will receive diplomas May 31 (and 100 percent of them have been accepted to college). The basketball team had its first successful season. Now the school has had its first moment in the sun with the Cincinnati Reds.

MaryAnn Chimusoro, who will be DePaul Cristo Rey’s valedictorian come commencement, threw out the first pitch at before the Reds 5-4 victory against the St. Louis Cardinals April 10 at Great American Ballpark.

Margee Garbsch, director of communications for DePaul Cristo Rey, said the school asked the Reds for the opportunity to recognize their first senior class. Not only did the Reds accept with the first pitch opportunity for Chimusoro, but the team provided complimentary tickets to all 48 seniors to enjoy the game.

DePaul Cristo Rey, which opened in 2011, is sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati. It is one of 28 Catholic schools in the nationwide Cristo Rey Network which serves 9,000 students.
